Practice what you Preach!

The article "Basic for Beginners: What Is Web 2.0? " made a lot of sense. As a teacher I spend a great deal of time encouraging students to try something new, trying to get students to learn new vocabulary and expand their information network. However, as a teacher, I think that I am reluctant to try something new. This article reminded me that I must lead by example. As I though about my years of teaching, I remembered how I had to adjust to my students having computer time during instruction time. I fought the changes but learned that the students were able to complete their computer time and get instruction too! It is the same way with blogging. As I become more comfortable with blogging, it will be easier for me to blog and get my students involved in blogging. I just have to practice using blogs and then let the students do it instead of continuing with a do as I say and not as I do attitude.

  1. You are right that we have to get out of our comfort zone and tackle the unknown. We expect that of our students, so why shouldn't we do this. I am convinced if teachers say I am too old to try anything new or do not embrace the technologies of the current generation then the students will become stagnant. Learning and teaching is a two way street.

  2. I agree with you both (suberwomen and iamlowery). I know for me personally, I also need to put some of my nervousness to the side and step into the world of technology. If I do not learn it now, I will not be able to offer it to my students, my children or for my enlightment. I do not want to be at a disadvantage of not knowing something. I say we hold hands and jump into the world of technology. If needed, we can help each other along the way. : )

  3. I hope that as you have blogged more, you will become more comfortable with it and may even see ways to use it in your classroom.
